How a seemingly random group of politically-engaged high school students came together to form Students of Orange County for Change

  • 14 February 2018

17 people died in a school shooting
in Parkland, Florida at a HS.

We all heard the news of Parkland separately and felt the familiar feeling of frustration. Inspired by the response from the student activists of Parkland, we all started to organize the walkouts at our schools.

Members meet up for the first time!

The original members of Students of Orange County for Change met at a local Starbucks, still complete strangers at this point, to discuss a common theme for their March 14th walkouts.

Students host walkouts at their schools!

One month after the school shooting in Parkland, SOC4Change members organized walked-out with thousands of our peers at each of our schools.

  • 17 March 2018

    SOC4Change is officially formed!

We met at the same Starbucks we had been at just two weeks earlier to debrief the walkout. We decided to stay together, forming SOC4Change and deciding to organize another more collaborative walkout on April 20th.

  • 20 April 2018

    Students hold their first rally!

Our first rally, in conjunction with the students from Parkland once again, was held in Bill Barber Park in Irvine, CA to demand common sense gun legislation. About 100 people attended.

  • 17 August 2018

    SOC4Change becomes a 501(c)3!

We are officially a 501(c)3! Coincidentally, this is also National Non-Profit Day, and SOC4Change celebrated the holiday by garnering official status.

  • 15 March 2019

    SOC4Change organizes a climate rally!

We organized a climate effort in conjunction with students from across the globe to demand that government officials address climate change before it is too late. We showed that student power will change the world and are still fighting!

    We are still at it!

Today, we are stronger than ever and still working to create change in this world! Join us and we can save the world together.

Students of Orange County for Change is a non-profit organization made up of high school students and recent graduates who came together in the confluence of school shooting tragedies that sparked the #NeverAgain movement. We started off as a few students from  South Orange County meeting at local Starbucks to share ideas for walkouts on our campuses. From there, the idea for a larger organization developed, and our motley meetings turned into SOC4Change, an organization that encompasses all of Orange County. Since then, we have been mobilizing our peers and community members to create positive change, focusing first on the realm of common sense gun legislation. Moving forward, we hope to foster youth involvement in all areas of our democracy because we believe that our voices in politics are monumentally important for the future of our country. We are dedicated to activism and motivating our peers to get politically involved. Join us today, and we can change the world together.
